MESSAGE:

George Muller, a renowned evangelist, built many orphanages at Ashley Down, England. Without salary, he relied solely on God to supply the money and food needed to support the hundreds of homeless children he accommodated in the name of Christ. Being a man of extraordinary faith, he kept a motto on his desk for many years that brought comfort, strength and confidence to his heart. It reads: “It matters to Him about you.” Muller believed that those words captured the meaning of 1 Peter 5:7 and he rested his claim for divine help on that truth. He testified at the end of his life that the Lord had never failed to supply all his needs.

The Israelites had complained of hunger and God had sent them bread from heaven with specific instructions. Although they were disobedient, He cared and provided food for them in the wilderness.

In view of life’s difficult circumstances, we are sometimes tempted to ask whether or not God really cares for us just as did Israel when they murmured against Moses because of hunger. As true Christians, we are precious in the sight of God. We were “not redeemed with corruptible things… But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a Lamb without blemish and without spot.”

You can be rest assured that God who redeemed you from your sins loves you enough to provide for all your present needs. He knows your peculiar condition and He delights in providing for your needs, healing your sicknesses, delivering you from oppression and giving you joy in exchange for sadness. No matter how serious or terrible your situation may seem to be, rest assured that God is interested in your welfare. He has neither forgotten or forsaken you.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Jesus redeemed you; you matter to Him.

MEDITATION

You can enjoy supernatural provisions

1. The nature of the supernatural provision

a. The Manna is called “bread” v31, Exodus 16:4; “corn of heaven” and “angels’ food, Psalm 78:24-25.

b. The Manna, with the quails, was highly medicinal and balanced that none was sick for 40 years Exodus 16:13, Psalm 105:37.

c. It had indestructible life and was life giving v24.

L. God is willing to do anything, including literally bringing down heaven’s food, in order to care for His own.

L. God, as the Creator, knows what our body needs and what individuals need that will work perfectly for the person. It was not a good looking provision, but it had all they needed for happiness and sustenance.

Other lessons?

2. Carnality and the bane of limiting God vv27-29, Psalm 78:41

a. Despite the miraculous provision, some still doubted God and did not respect the instruction on the sanctity of the Sabbath.

b. Their unbelief led to unnecessary care and anxiety, which eventually led to disobedience. So it is today.

c. The law of Sabbath was really a law rooted in love for them to rest vv29,30. His laws are for our good and not to punish or limit us from enjoying a full life.

3. The mindset of the ” “unbelieving believers”

a. The God who brought them out of Egypt did not think through on what they will eat in the wilderness.

b. The God who divided the Red sea may not have the power to provide for their needs.

c. The God who gave immediate answers to the prayers of Moses in the Egyptian palace may not really have a solution to their needs even if they call upon Him rather than murmuring.

Q. What other things are wrong with the mindset of unbelievers or your own?

Q. What should be the right and scriptural mindset of a believer?

HYMN

MY FATHER KNOWS

1 He knows the bitter, weary way,
The endless striving day by day,
The souls that weep, the souls that pray—
He knows it all,
He knows it all, He knows it all,
The souls that weep, the souls that pray—
He knows it all.

2 He knows how hard the fight has been,
The clouds that come our lives between,
The worlds the world has never seen—
He knows it all,
He knows it all, He knows it all,
The worlds the world has never seen—
He knows it all.

3 He knows, when faint and worn we sink,
How deep the pain, how near the brink
Of dark despair we pause and shrink—
He knows it all,
He knows it all, He knows it all,
Of dark despair we pause and shrink—
He knows it all.

4 He knows! O tho’t so full of bliss!
For tho’ on earth our joys we miss,
We still can bear it, feeling this—
He knows it all,
He knows it all, He knows it all,
We still can bear it, feeling this—
He knows it all.
