DAILY MANNA DCLM BY PASTOR W F KUMUYI

MESSAGE:

Men commonly seek for signs to validate the truth concerning a matter. To achieve this, some resort to getting information from dubious sources and sometimes go as far as seeking help of prophets or fortune tellers to unlock the secrets of the future.

From our text, God told Ahaz to ask for a sign, any sign. But the king was really not a friend of God; so, he did not ask for a sign, hiding under a false sense of humility. God decided to give him a sign anyway. And the sign was going to be the birth of the child Immanuel through a virgin. This was the prophecy that would take more than five hundred years to be fulfilled, but God gave the sign to let the ungodly Ahaz know that He cares for His people. God called this child Immanuel because He had a plan for His own. Although Ahaz had abandoned the Lord, He will not abandon His people. He’s a faithful God who, in the midst of calamities that would befall the land, would provide help and a way of escape for His own.

We have many people today who are seeking for favourable signs while ignoring obvious signs of the end time. They want to see signs before they will believe the truth of the gospel while conveniently ignoring the signs in the living word of God.

God has given us Immanuel. There is no better alternative to the signs that He gave man. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. We should be careful not to behave like the Pharisees of old who were always looking for signs even when God speaks audibly that He is with us (EMMANUEL). This word of God is with us. The witness of the Holy Spirit is in our hearts. The signs are visible enough. Believe them and be blessed.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Many have sight but no vision.

COVER TO COVER
LEVITICUS 18-20.

PONDER:

The folly of hardness of heart

1. King Ahaz was an eye witness of his father’s 16 years good, godly and glorious reign, but he chose to live for idols 2 Chronicles 27:6-28:4.

2. 2 powerful kings planned to waste Judah and dethrone him. God, in his mercy, sent Isaiah to him to assure him of victory on the condition that he will remove his confidence from idols and trust Him alone Isaiah 7:1,2,6,7,8.

3. His mind was still set on the help from idols and Assyria.

4. God asked him to request for a sign that will make him put his trust in God. He rejected it and wearied God with his hardened heart of unbelief Isaiah 7:10-13.

P
May you not weary God through unbelief and hardness of heart.

5. The prophesy of help became void because he refused to repent. Eventually he was conquered by the Syrian king God promised to defeat for him 2 Chronicles 28:5-8. The loss was unimaginable.
The faithfulness of God to His prophecies and promises is dependent on faith and obedience to His word No unconditional blessings.

6. Instead of retracing his steps to seek God, he went to Assyrians to seek for help 2 Chronicles 28:16-19, 20,22-25. Unfortunately, he went further to seek help from the enemies that were looking for his destructions. He became their prey.
Hardness of heart give room to deception and delusion

7. There was a prophecy of judgement that his confidants, the Assyrians, will destroy him and Judah, yet he ignored it Isaiah 7:17-25.
For the disobedient heart, a time comes when the voice of the Holy Spirit is lost

Q With all the benefits of prophetic ministry of the word and what he learnt from his father, why did Ahaz still hardened his heart?

Q Was there any benefit Ahaz received from his rejection of the word of God?
Rejection of the word of God in some shape or form is a sure path of foolishness and self destruction.

HYMN:

Would you be free from your burden of sin.

1. Would you be free from your burden of sin?
There’s power in the blood, power in the blood;
Would you o’er evil a victory win?
There’s wonderful power in the blood.

Chorus
There is power, power, wonder-working power,
In the blood of the Lamb;
There is power, power, wonder-working power,
In the precious blood of the Lamb.

2
Would you be free from your passion and pride?
There’s power in the blood, power in the blood;
Come for a cleansing to Calvary’s tide,
There’s wonderful power in the blood.

3
Would you be whiter, much whiter than snow?
There’s power in the blood, power in the blood;
Sin-stains are lost in its life-giving flow,
There’s wonderful power in the blood.

4
Would you do service for Jesus your King?
There’s power in the blood, power in the blood;
Would you live daily His praises to sing?
There’s wonderful power in the blood.

PRAYER POINTS

1. Lord, break my heart and remove every form of hardness and unbelief.

2. Let me never loose the voice of the Holy Spirit. If already lost, ask for mercy and repent.

3. Lord, don’t permit me to be deluded and deceived in life as to make my adversaries my confidants.

4. Lord, let the voice of the Spirit henceforth be louder and clearer as we consecrate to be obedient at all times.
