DCLM Daily Manna July 2020 Devotional By Pastor W.F Kumuyi – JUDGEMENT FOR THE DISOBEDIENT

It is advisable that you prayerfully and meditatively read the text first

TEXT: JEREMIAH 25:1-11.

KEY VERSE: “Behold, I will send and take all the families of the North, saith the LORD, and Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against the inhabitants thereof and against all these nations round about, and will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and an hissing, and perpetual desolations” (JEREMIAH 25:9).

MESSAGE:

Charles Spurgeon once said, “Obedience which is not voluntary is disobedience, for the Lord looketh at the heart, and if He seeth that we serve Him with force, and not because we love Him, He will reject our offering.” Obedience is a key to success for the Christian.

DCLM DAILY MANNA 19 JULY 2020 DEVOTIONAL

It must be prompt and real as it brings blessings. Disobedience, on the other hand, brings judgement, destruction, damnation and death to the disobedient.

Today’s passage is a pronouncement of judgement on the disobedient and mockers of God’s prophets. God sent prophet Jeremiah to pronounce judgement on the children of Judah and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

DCLM DAILY MANNA 19 JULY 2020 DEVOTIONAL

Over the years, the Lord had raised up several prophets who had spoken God’s mind to them; urging them to turn from their evil ways and not serve gods of the land. Despite all the warnings and pleadings, the children of Judah had scorned God’s words and even mocked His prophets, thereby, provoking Him to anger with the works of their hands.

For being incorrigible, God sent His prophet ,Jeremiah, to pronounce judgement on them. Nebuchadnezzar, the king of Babylon, would invade Judah and utterly destroy the land and its inhabitants.

The land will become a perpetual desolation and the voices of joy, gladness and celebrations shall cease. Darkness and hissings shall take over the land of Judah and all the habitants of Jerusalem. The confirmation of the judgement was that the entire nation would be brought under the captivity of Babylon for seventy years.

Obedience to God’s word, will and way, is the only pathway to life’s bliss, joy and happiness. Disobedience on the other hand, leads to loss, destruction and damnation. To receive God’s favour, we must obey His word and reverence His prophets.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY Obedience is the key to real faith!

MEDITATION:

23 years of wasted service to God?

1. Labouring without fruits?

a. Jeremiah served the Lord for 23 years without visible fruits to show for it, v23.

b. He preached faithfully and passionately the message God gave him to the point that people called him “a weeping prophet”, vv5-7.

c. Yet, there was no national repentance and he could not point to individual repentance either, v7.

d. Despite his faithfulness and forthrightness, the judgement of God still descended and Judah was led to captivity for 70 years v12.

Q Could we say that Jeremiah was a successful minister?

Q. Are you serving God faithfully but you observe that there is not enough to show for it either spiritually or physically?

2. Labouring with faith and hope

a. Not all labours will show immediate fruits. Some labours can just be classified as sowing while the reaping will be done by others, John 4:37,38.

b. The impact of his message was more felt during the captivity. It helped Daniel, Meshach etc to take their stand in Babylon which eventually led to repentance of Nebuchadnezzar and national revival. There was national and global recognition of God of the Jews as the only true God. His prophecy of 70 years in Babylon helped Daniel hopefully wait for the right time to start praying for divine intervention. His prophecies are still useful and relevant for us today after thousands of years. What a great and influential ministry!

c. The sowers and the reapers, the visible labourers and the unknown labourers will all receive reward accordingly, I Corinthians 3:8.

d. Don’t judge the greatness or fruitfulness of people’s service to God by the the crowd or visible results you see. Wait till the rewarding day. “The first shall be the last.”

e. Never be discouraged if you cannot see enough visible fruits after your faithful service. There may be generational blessings and rewards that may just manifest after you are no more in that place of assignment.

PRAYER:

Praise God because you will not serve the Lord in vain. There is reward waiting for you and your genealogies

Renew your determination to give all to God’s service and ask for grace to be more faithful

Pray that right here on earth you will start reaping fruits of your labour early in life

Pray for all ministers and missionaries that may be facing discouragement that God will open their eyes to see reasons for praises
