DCLM Daily Manna June 2020 Devotional By Pastor W.F Kumuyi – DIVISION FORBIDDEN

It is advisable that you prayerfully and meditatively read the text first

TEXT: 1 CORINTHIANS 1:10-17.

KEY VERSE: “Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ. Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?” ( 1 CORINTHIANS 1:12,13).

MESSAGE:

The reason many nations find it difficult to make real progress is because of disunity.
This disunity is not really because of multiple ethnic groupings, diverse cultures, etc., but because of their inability to recognise the potentials and their differences and the need to harness them towards achieving a common end.

DCLM DAILY MANNA 20 JUNE 2020 DEVOTIONAL

As long as people are bitterly pitched in opposing camps, and fail to see face to face, there cannot be meaningful progress.

The Corinthian church had become so contentious and torn apart by schisms. Sadly, this division was as a result of different camps built around the personalities of the ministers God had used to bless them. They became fans of the different preachers. Getting the reports, Apostle Paul sharply rebuked them, recognising this as a sign of carnality and immaturity. It was the devil’s ploy to make them lose focus of heaven.

How we need to watch so that we do not allow the devil to make us turn the great things God has given us in the church into engines of divisions and contentions. We must not descend into carnality and begin to make comparisons between ministers and leaders in the church. They are God’s gift to the Church for the edification of the body.

While we should accord them due honour, we are not to build opposing camps around them. We should pray for them that God will continue to help them to be channels of blessings to us.

Nothing delights the hearts of our ministers more than to see that by the grace of God, we are bringing forth good fruits as a result of the seed of the Word they are sowing in us.

MEDITATION:

Unity among brethren, a must

1. Bible standard v10

a. Deliberately unite with the scriptural decisions of the church and His appointed leaders v10.

b. Speak in line with the biblical decisions of God’s people and avoid unnecessary dissenting voice v10. Crucify pride and self.

c. Wholeheartedly identify fully with the biblical reasoning and decisions of God’s people v10.

2. The Believers source

a. The only way to have the same mind with others is for all to have the mind of Christ, Phillipains 2:5.

b. In other words, everyone should consecrate to allow the word of God, the example of Christ and the love of God to guide our interactions.

c. Pride, self, including ago, must be dissolved into the perfect will of God. Carnality and disunity among brethren are inseparable.

3. The Bold saints v11.

a. Charity begins at home. The house of Chloe must have been living in unity for them to jointly confront disunity in the church v11.

b. Obviously, they reported it to the leadership of the church who would be more effective in tackling the disunity and carnality.

c. They were not afraid of what carnal Christians will say when Paul mentioned their name. Paul himself did not give opportunity to the members to pretend that all is well. He mentioned the name of the informants. This is contending for the faith, including unity v11.

4. The blessed Saviour vv12-17

a. We have the same Saviour and the same salvation.

b. The same heaven is promised to all. No disunity in heaven. “Thy will be done on earth as it is done in heaven”.

c. There cannot be disunity in the body of Christ except one party or all the parties are siding with the devil, the enemy of Christ.

d. There is no disunity in the Godhead. There will be no disunity wherever the Godhead is given full reign.

Q. What are your decisions now in order to be a promoter of unity? It takes genuine humility to live in unity.

PRAYER:

Pray earnest for unity in your nuclear spiritual family if it is missing

Ask for grace to be an example in promoting unity and not to be a source of disunity in the Church and among brethren.

Ask that members in the Church will truly possess the mind of Christ

Pray for increasing knowledge and understanding of the word and will of God that are needed for true unity in the Church

HYMN:

Blest be the tie that binds

1. Blest be the tie that binds
Our hearts in Christian love;
The fellowship our spirit finds
Is like to that above.

2. Before our Father’s throne,
We pour our ardent prayers;
Our fears, our hopes, our aims are one—
Our comforts and our cares.

3. We share our mutual woes;
Our mutual burdens bear;
And often for each other flows
The sympathizing tear.

4. When we asunder part,
It gives us inward pain;
But we shall still be joined in heart,
And hope to meet again.

5. From sorrow, toil, and pain,
And sin we shall be free;
And perfect love and oneness reign
Through all eternity.
