DCLM Daily Manna AUGUST 2020 Devotional By Pastor W.F Kumuyi – Let There Be Justice

It is advisable that you prayerfully and meditatively read the text first

TEXT: Deuteronomy 17:1-6

1. Thou shalt not sacrifice unto the LORD thy God any bullock, or sheep, wherein is blemish, or any evilfavouredness; for that is an abomination unto the LORD thy God.

2. If there be found among you, within any of thy gates which the LORD thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that hath wrought wickedness in the sight of the LORD thy God, in transgressing his covenant,

3. And hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, either the sun, or moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;

4. And it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, and enquired diligently, and, behold, it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel;

5. Then shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, which have committed that wicked thing, unto thy gates, even that man or that woman, and shalt stone them with stones, till they die.

6. At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

KEY VERSE: “At the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is worthy of death be put to death; but at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.” (Deuteronomy 17:6)

MESSAGE:

Recently, a country in Africa rose in stout defence of some of her citizens on death row in another country over allegation of hard drug trafficking.

DCLM DAILY MANNA 29 AUGUST 2020 DEVOTIONAL

The foreign country is known to execute those found guilty of such offence; but it was discovered that some “convicts” were wrongly condemned as they knew nothing about the drugs found in their luggage. The African country was able to prove their case beyond reasonable doubt that the conviction was cancelled and the convicts freed.

God is a God of orderliness and justice. He knows that a natural man is evil and can go to any extent to hurt others, even to the point of death. Although He had prescribed death for idol worshippers in Israel; He insisted that those who must die should first defend themselves.

DCLM DAILY MANNA 29 AUGUST 2020 DEVOTIONAL

He insisted that execution of suspects must not be a premeditated thing but a thorough process in which more than one person must testify against the individual standing trial. This was also to eliminate death through malice, vendetta and sheer hatred.

From the passage, God declared that no gossip is to be used as evidence to convict one of idolatrous worship. Since such worship carried with it the penalty of death, then the accused must be faced by, at least, two witnesses who could confirm the accusation.

DCLM DAILY MANNA 29 AUGUST 2020 DEVOTIONAL

In whatever field believers find themselves in the secular world, the church and family, justice must be our watchword. Those who lead others must not draw conclusions on hearsay. Thorough investigations must be carried out to ascertain the truth of an allegation against someone.

We must emulate the God of justice; we too must go the whole length to ensure that the just is not punished unjustly. Believers must ensure that no one is ill-treated on account of perception but justice must prevail at all times.

MEDITATION:

Some applications of Old Testament injunctions

1. Imperfect sacrifices are abominable to God

a. Offerings from impure source, impure motives are abominable to God, v1.

b. Offerings originating from an impure person are also not acceptable except the person clean him/herself first, v1.

c. Services or offerings that are laced with idolatrous, worldly or human sinful nature and expressions are abominable, v1. God looks for those who will serve Him in truth and in spirit.

d. Those sacrifices are better not offered at all than offered. It amounts to tempting God, v1.

Q Supply Bible references from the New Testament to support the above points

2. How to handle false prophets and seducers

a. When it is discovered that a member of the body of Christ has swerved from the faith in doctrine or in practice, either secretly or overtly, you are not to ignore it, vv2-6.

b. The Bible commanded that you should “test the spirit”, teachings, lifestyle etc of such people to find the truthfulness of the allegations, I John 4:1.

c. Don’t run into conclusion without a well confirmed and convincing evidence, vv4-6

d. Once it is confirmed, it is needful to do what is necessary so that their souls will be saved and those ensnared by their deceptions will be delivered, vv4-6. At times, all you need to do is to report to the appropriate leaders.

e. Do not cover evil nor shield evil doers and seducers from public rebuke, exposure or embarrasement if it is within your power, vv4-6.

f. This public exposure, rebuke or corrections should be done by the right set of people in wisdom and firmness.

Q. Support the above applications with New Testament passages or with the examples of the apostles.

PRAYER:

Lord, keep me from errors in practice and doctrine and let me not be a prey of seducers

Lord, give me grace to be bold for the truth at all times

Pray, for His servants that have swerved from the true faith that God will visit and restore them

Pray, that God will expose and disgrace false and fake preachers who deceives the innocent in this nation
