MESSAGE:

Things are not always what we expect them to be. Irrespective of how prepared we are to face life. Situations may arise that would severely test our staying power and prove how resolute we are in standing with God.

DCLM DAILY MANNA 4 MAY 2020 DEVOTIONAL

None was ever so tested in history like Job. He suffered a deluge of calamities and disasters. Yet, he was convinced that he had done nothing to merit such an experience.

He became confused as to why God could have caused such misfortune to befall him. Yet, he never doubted God’s sovereignty and superior understanding. He recognised that He is the ultimate Judge of all men. The wicked who are mighty in this life would suffer the fate of all sinners for their evil deeds.

What bothered Job most, though, were the wrong thoughts of his friends who concluded that he was suffering because of his great sin. In frustration, he queried them: “How then comfort ye me in vain, seeing in your answers there remaineth falsehood?”

As humans, there are times when events and situations weigh dangerously around a believer that he/she begins to wonder why things are so. But we must realise that at such a period, only absolute trust in the never-failing word of God is all that we need to keep going. Someone said, “The only way God can show us He is in control is to put us in situations we can’t control.”

When troubles arise in life, especially those that are inexplicable, we must realise that it is a time to show our true attitude towards God. We must never yield to the temptation to become angry and bitter at Him. Even if we are wrongly accused by those who should know better, we should understand that ultimate vindication awaits those who trust in God. So when you are tried, ensure you shine forth as gold.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: When God is with you, storms should not alarm you.

COVER TO COVER: JUDGES 8-10.

MEDITATION:

Are you a wise person?

1. The wise is the one who has a strong conviction that God is omnipotent and he (the wise) is by far incomparably finite in knowledge v22. Consequently,

a. He does not argue with God and His word.

b. He takes the word of God as final in all matters and decisions in his life.

c. He makes efforts to increase in the knowledge of His word and abandons his knowledge whenever it contradicts the word of God.

d. He does not wait to understand or be convinced in all His word before obedience. Those he does not understand by reason, he balance by faith and hold on to it.

Q. What are other implications of the omnipotence of God in your life?

2. The wise is the one who believes that whatever experience one passes through in this life (maybe 100 years), the most important thing is where he spends eternity, heaven or hell vv24-26.
Consequently,

a. his actions, ambitions and aspirations are dictated by how it will affect his final abode in eternity.

b. he takes extra mile in following hard after God and godliness.

c. his mind is fixed on making heaven irrespective of earthly loss, lack and limitations.

Q. Do you belief it and how serious are you with that fact in 2 above?

3. He is the one who understands that godliness, no matter the cost, is profitable in life and eternity and the punishment of godlessness is better not imagined, now in this life and in eternity vv28-33. Consequently

a. he does not envy the godless for any reason.

b. he does not seek to conform or impress the world.

Q. What are other consequences?

4. He is the one who belief that death or rapture can happen at any time and therefore he must always be watchful and prayerful Psalms 144:4

The great question: Do you classify yourself as a wise person?

Reflect on each points above

PRAYER POINTS:

Lord, I ask for wisdom to always operate in consciousness of eternity

Lord, take all forms of blindness and self deception that think that my life sojourn cannot not end at any time

Take all foolishness from me and make me wise into eternal life

Lord, let the Holy Spirit impart true wisdom into the lives of all our Church members.

HYMN:

Where will you spend eternity?

Eternity! Eternity!
How will you spend Eternity?
This question comes to you and me!
How will you spend Eternity?
Tell me, what shall your answer be—
How will you spend Eternity?

2. Eternity! Eternity!
How will you spend Eternity?
Many are choosing Christ today,
Turning from all their sins away;
Christ shall their blessed portion be:
How will you spend Eternity?

3. Eternity! Eternity!
How will you spend Eternity?
Leaving the strait and narrow way,
Going the downward road today,
What shall the final ending be—
How will you spend Eternity?

4. Eternity! Eternity!
How will you spend Eternity?
Turn, and believe this very hour,
Trust in the Savior’s grace and power:
Then shall your joyous answer be,
Saved through a long Eternity!
