1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

LESSON INTRODUCTION:

Consecration is a process or practice of making something or someone sacred, dedicated and set apart for the Lord. Consecration also carries the connotation of sanctification, holiness or purity. Being consecrated is a critical component in our relationship to God and to those in the world (Rom. 12:1-2).

Consecration is also a devotion to the worship or service of God which can occur through God (Num. 3:12), a higher spiritual authority (Exo. 28:41) or self (Exo. 32:29).

Consecration involves three ideas; separation from evil, devotion to God and ceaseless pursuit of holiness in heart and life.

INSTANCES OF CONSECRATION

There are instances of those called to consecration in the Bible. God asked Moses to consecrate Aaron and his sons to His service as priests (Exo. 28:41). In Numbers 3:12, God consecrated the Levites to Himself. He did the same for Jeremiah even before he was born (Jer. 1:5). Samuel was consecrated (1 Sam. 1:27-28). Prophet Samuel also consecrated Jesse and his sons (1 Sam. 6:15).

The Levites were instructed to consecrate themselves to the Lord and be blessed (Exo. 32:29). Jesus Christ ordained and sent forth twelve disciples (Mk. 3:14). Paul and Barnabas were consecrated for a special assignment (Acts 13:2-3). The consecration of John the Baptist was declared by an angel (Lk. 1:13-16).

The call to personal consecration demands that one presents himself wholly to God (Rom. 12:1; 2 Chron. 17:16) and be willing to purge himself of all filthiness of the flesh and the spirit (2 Tim. 2:21; 2 Cor. 7:1). This is made possible through absolute compliance with divine instructions given by God in His word (John 17:17; Ps. 119:9; Eph. 5:26). The act of “putting-off” the old man and “putting-on” the new man illustrates the consecration expected of believers (Col. 3:5-14).

BENEFITS OF CONSECRATION

A clear benefit of being consecrated or pure in our relationship with God as illustrated in Joshua 3:5. Sin is defilement (Ps. 51:2,7), and we have to be cleansed before we can truly follow God (Lev. 20:7). Other benefits include: overflowing blessing (Exo. 32:29), overflowing anointing (Heb. 1:9; Acts 10:38), becoming a chosen vessel of God (2 Tim. 2:21; Acts 9:15), outstanding victory without a fight (Prov. 16:17; 2 Chron. 20:15-19), ever abiding presence of God (Ps. 91:1-2; Joshua 3:1-5), freedom from condemnation (Rom. 8:1-2), confidence in prayer (1 John 3:21-22), spiritual power (Rom. 1:1-4), father-child relationship (2 Cor. 6:14-18), a walk with God unto all pleasing (Colossians 1:10).

RCCG Sunday School 6 October 2019 HYMN

O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
O how I love Thee well,
I am happy, it makes me glad
To rejoice at Thy birth.

O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day, Thy friendship suits me well,
Both young and old will sing Thy song,
We long for Sunday School.

O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Christ was Thy first teacher,
The Holy Spirit, great teacher,
Does manifest in thee.

O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
This testimony is sure,
That God, the Father Almighty,
Poured His blessing on Thee.

O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
Though the sun be so bright,
Or if the clouds black with rain,
I’ll be in Sunday School.

O Sunday School, on the Lord’s day,
I rejoice to see Thee,
Will thou pass over me today?
Without my being blest?
